Wampum beads were first created from Quahog Clam shells and Whelk shells. Native Americans from Northeastern North America use them to make necklaces, belts, arm bands, and as decorations for clothing. When Glass Wampum beads became available, crafters started to use them to create elaborate Belts with detailed designs that conveyed messages between groups.
